One of the hardest things that every parent has to do is watch our children suffer through illness.  It is unavoidable, but that doesn’t mean we have to like it.  Kids get sick and, more often than not, it happens in the wee hours of the night.

If the baby can’t sleep, nobody is going to get any sleep.  Both my sons went through a period when the got so congested that they couldn’t breathe when they would lay down.  Propping them up with pillows will only get you so far.  If you want to get a decent night’s sleep, at some point you will probably need to get a humidifier for your child’s room.

We tried several brands.  One didn’t put out enough steam.  One put out a lot of steam, but it all condensed almost immediately and left puddles on the floor.  One worked OK for a while but just stopped.

Finally, we found the ReliOn Cool Mist Humidifier.  It seems to do the trick with a minimum of mess.  You can set the flow to control the amount of mist that comes out.  The reservoir is plenty big enough to run all night without draining.

Most importantly, it does what it is supposed to do.  They boys will almost always sleep through a night with the cool mist humidifier running.  The ReliOn is not immune from condensation issues.  Sometimes we end up with a sheen of water on the floor or dresser-top under the humidifier.  You would do well to put a towel under the unit before letting it run all night.

Despite the condensation, the ReliOn works well, lasts long, helps your child to breathe more easily during the night, and contributes to Mom and Dad getting a good night’s sleep.
