Computer time with toddlers can be a lot of fun. Even though toddlers typically have a short attention span, most computer games you find for the age group are short and simple. The idea with most of these games is to get your toddler used to manipulating the mouse. After all, computers have become an integral part of society and learning how to use one is rapidly becoming a necessity.

There are a couple of things to remember before you begin those computer games with your toddler. The first rule has to do with liquids. Even those lidded sippy cups can spill if turned upside down. So, all sippy cups need to be put away before you hop on. All adult cups should likewise be removed from the area. If it can be spilled on your computer, your toddler can turn it over in their enthusiasm.

Because they have a relatively short attention span, limit the time your toddler spends on the computer. If they seem restless or not that eager to play, then any enjoyment of the games is going to be lost. The same is true if they really can’t sit still for more than a few minutes. The likelihood of them learning anything at this point is at zero. Five or ten minutes is usually enough for most toddlers.

Set up or bookmark the websites where you want to play with your toddler ahead of time. Make certain to visit the websites first so that you know the layout and what you are exposing your toddler to. Do not head into these sites blind trusting that they will have suitable games. Also, make certain your anti-virus is up to date.

Play the games you want to play with your toddler alone first. This is the best way to judge whether or not your toddler can handle it. Remember that simple is better. Avoid games that have a ton of written directions or something that you can’t figure out within the first thirty seconds. Play the entire game through to the end. Most of them won’t take more than a few minutes. Of course, this is no guarantee that your toddler can play it or that it will instantly become their favorite.

Computer time with toddlers can be fun. You just need to make a few preparations to make sure your toddler gets the most out of the short time that their attention span allows. First, keep the drinks away. If it can be spilled, it will be spilled. Set up the sites ahead of time so that you can head directly there. Finally, preview the games so you understand the scope of them.
