Elementary School: Time for Independence

by Lori Sciame June 4th, 2014| Behavior, Elementary
Once a child hits elementary school, she can complete many important tasks without a parent's help, including dressing herself, combing her hair, brushing her teeth, making her bed, and even making new friends.  Hard to believe this "little miss independent" finished preschool only a short while ago!

Bullying in Sports

by Ronald A. Rowe May 14th, 2014| Elementary, Safety
I recently had the opportunity to counsel with a tearful mother whose son was the victim of bullying.  The problems did not rise to the level of physical conflict but her 10-year-old son, we’ll call him “Aaron,” was suffering from continuous and demoralizing taunting from his baseball teammates.  Aaron

Are School Computers Ergonomically Friendly?

by Tania Cowling May 8th, 2014| School, Tweens
My friend’s Tween came home from middle school complaining of a neck ache and his eyes hurting. We weren’t quite sure what to make of this -- does he need glasses?  Did he pull a muscle? Is this the beginning of a headache syndrome? After cross-examining him with questions,

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is here.  I am in the final quarter of my high school career and honestly I could not care less.  At this point, it seems like there is nothing driving me forward anymore.  I currently have all A's, I have secured my position in the

Immersion Preschools, Proceed With Caution

by Margot F. April 22nd, 2014| Preschool, School
Language immersion preschools have become popular in recent years. Programs emphasizing French in Canada and Spanish in the United Stare are the most popular, although Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese) preschools are also in demand. Are there different criteria for language based preschools versus regular preschools? Why would you

Parental Rights and Responsibilities

by Ronald A. Rowe April 16th, 2014| Elementary, School
Our world increasingly embraces the role of government in the duties of raising our children. Examples abound of parents abdicating their responsibilities one inch at a time and institutions usurping them as quickly as possible. There’s the school in Chicago that's banning home packed lunches, instead forcing children to

I Have Nothing to Wear to School

by Tania Cowling April 10th, 2014| School, Tweens
How many times have you heard this statement from your Tween? It’s been an issue too many times in my home, mostly with my daughter. The boys were happy with a few special shirts and jeans, but my daughter kept moaning that she was a total outcast because she
