wow, i just spent a few hours today trying to find a good preschool for my three year old. I found one that I really wanted, unfortunately, they only accept kids who are turning 4 by Sept. 1. My daughter will be three by end of Jan. Oh well, I guess I have to find another school. Yes its true, you really should take time looking for a good school for our kids.

I have a daughter who will be starting Preschool this fall. A lot of my mom friends are freaking out over finding the "perfect" school for their child. Some are looking for practically prep schools, thinking that they will give their kids an "edge".

For a child to be ready for preschool they should just have a interest in going and be able to follow simple directions. Preschool is more about socialization rather than learning concepts. Preschoolers learn about taking turns, following a schedule, listening to someone besides their parents, and being away from home for the first time.

In addition to the things you mentioned some of the things we considered were:
- Their ability to teach our child thing we couldn't (focus on languages, music)
- The size of the school (small means more personal touch)
- In our case we loved the fact that the preschool is part of the elementary school, so he can stay at the same school through to grade 6
